Well, how do you optimise your website to attract the traffic you want?

Search Engine Optimisation
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the practice of improving the level of traffic of your website through the use of targeted keywords that are likely to be searched by customers searching for the products or services your business offers. Even if your website looks attractive and is beautifully designed, if it is not optimised properly then it will be unlikely to attract traffic and it is not going to help your business as much as it could without some basic SEO optimisation.

Your small business can do the following simple SEO techniques to improve its ranking on the search engines:

Determine your target audience & Key Phrase
This is the first step in your SEO campaign. Always identify the intended target audience of your website and select a keyword or key phrase that this audience will likely use to search for your products. Then set up page content based on this keyword or key phrase to ensure the page or website is ‘relevant’ to the targeted key phrase.

Produce unique content for your website constantly
Look to write unique and informative articles, blogs etc for your website.  Original and interesting content will be valued by your visitors and provide visitors with a reason to remain (and hopefully return) to your website.  This ‘valued content’ will help generate on-going interest in your website, helping increase the potential for a sale. Providing value to the visitor will result in a higher ‘ROI’ for your business via your website.

Have your business listed in Google Local Business Listing
This is a free feature offered by Google where you can create additional links so people can easily find your site, therefore your web traffic will be increased.  Signing up is easy and quick, you only need to provide your business name, address, contact information, etc. You also can get linked by listing with other online directories like Chamber of Commerce and local business directories.

Arrange for Quality and Relevant links back to your website
Inbound links are considered very important in the SEO world, particularly by Google.  If you have decent quality and relevant links directed back to your website, your ranking on search engines will be enhanced.  Using directories, suppliers, social networks sites can offer a free and quick way to start with creating back links to your site. Note that some more ‘notable’ directories may require fee to generate a link. Do not use link farms or the like as these will probably be noticed by the Search Engines and get your website banned or penalised.

Promote your Website URL Offline
Always include your website address on stationary, on marketing materials and on company vehicles. This is a sure fire way to help achieve continuous promoting of the website address.

All businesses should explore and utilise their website to work well in the Search Engines. If your site is properly optimised for the search engines you can attract more traffic, your business can easily be found by potential clients, and you will hopefully achieve more sales for your business.

Finding the Right Business Insurance

Finding the Right Business Insurance

Managing the day to day aspects of a business can be tiring enough, but with the pressure on every business owner these days, it’s easy to forget about the legalities of insurance. If you own a business, there are many aspects of it which need to be insured, from your staff to your goods and services. For example, a vegetable farm might have to insure their workers, their machinery, plus their fleet of trucks or vans which deliver the produce.

businessinsuranceBusiness Insurance
It can be difficult to wade through the practicalities of insurance, so if you are searching for good quality business insurance in Newcastle – or indeed from anywhere in the UK, then you should use an insurance broker. Here at Weir Insurance, we believe in customer satisfaction and in finding the right quote which will suit every need and aspect of one’s business. However, in this article, we’ll take a look at a few reasons as to why you should consider hiring a broker to find the right insurance. In Newcastle and Northumberland, there are many insurance brokers available to you, but Weir Insurance prides itself as being an insurance broker which combines in-depth experience with great customer service, leading you to a more profitable deal that works for everyone.

1. Experience

Brokers have decades worth of experience to help customers get the best possible quote. For example, take us here at Weir Insurance. We have been assisting customers with their insurance since 1972, so that’s almost forty years! With our number of staff working here for decades, if you add up each member’s experience, it would be hundreds of years’ worth of experience. Nothing beats the time tested experience of brokers, because they have the finesse to find the companies with the best cover at the best rates, and their intuition can help give you the advice you need.

2. Finding the Best Cover at the Best Price

With so many insurance companies out there, wading through lists of insurance companies and their rates is like going through a minefield, and with each company offering tens of options, it can be very difficult to know which is the best deal.

Some companies offer discounts, depending on how many years you’ve been with them, while others might combine rates together to give you the best deal. However, finding these deals takes more than a lot of work and time, it might also depend on luck. Since you’re looking through so many companies and the rates they offer, you might miss out on a great deal or on a combination which will earn you the best money.

With an insurance broker, they will scan through every company and every option they provide, to ensure that you’re covering everything you need, at the best affordable price. Insurance brokers know which insurance companies provide the best experience and value for certain businesses, and what covers they want.

3. Less Stress

With an insurance broker, all you have to do is give them the details of your business and what you want to insure, and leave them do the rest! By allowing us to use our time-tested experience in getting you a great quote, you won’t have to worry about anything. As long as we have all the details, such as what you want to cover and how many employees to insure, etc., you’ll have more time to keep running your business and make sure everything is running smoothly. Managing an entire business is a lot more efficient, when you don’t have to worry about insurance, too!

Conclusion

If your business is operating anywhere in Newcastle or Northumberland, and you want a business insurance policy you can trust and that will combine the three benefits mentioned above into a solid customer experience, you should choose Weir Insurance brokers! Call us today on 0800 281 453 and we’ll help you get the best deal, use our knowledge and invaluable experience to find the best quote, and give you a great customer experience. You’re in good hands!

Effective Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Website

Effective Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Website

By improving the quality of your website, Google will perceive your website to be authoritative and user-friendly. Your website will rank highly on the Google search results pages, as a result, and this means a constant stream of traffic. In 2012 and 2013, Google unleashed their Panda and Penguin algorithms. You may have heard of businesses who collapsed after these algorithm releases. These algorithms severely reduced the rankings of websites that were “low-quality”, in terms of Google’s eyes. Most low quality websites lost all their traffic overnight.

banner

In the future, having a high quality website will help establish trust with Google and will ensure that all your online marketing efforts will reward you with much traffic and customers. It’s certainly fundamental to know that by having a high-quality website, you’ll set a solid foundation that will be easy to build on in the years to come.

1. Lots of Text In Your Content and Pages

When Google bots are scanning your website to be indexed in the search results, they scan the main keywords and phrases. This means that the more content you have on your pages, the more words the Googlebot will be able to scan through. Google likes to see pages with lots of text (even a few paragraphs per page is enough), because it displays that you want to serve the user with as much helpful information as possible. If your pages have lots of pictures and little text, the bot won’t be able to scan anything, and your website will be viewed as a low quality website.

You don’t need to be writing pages of text, but a few paragraphs per page is sufficient. If you run an ecommerce store/business and have pages with product lists, you can include a few paragraphs at the top of the page about the type of product.

2. Avoid Ads “Above The Fold”

If you have placed ads on your website, either through Google AdSense or with another platform, avoid placing them “above the fold.” This basically means the first screenshot the user gets of your website: ie, when you arrive at a website and don’t scroll any further. By placing a lot of ads in this area, Google will think that your sole aim is to have people click your ads and then leave.

Avoid popup ads and ads that take up large spaces.

3. Provide High Quality Content

When you are writing content for your blog, make sure that it is above 600 words (ideally, keep it above 800 words) and that it contains helpful, useful information for the reader. If you just write blog posts in order to gain traffic, but your articles aren’t informative or useful, your website could be penalized as a result.

Avoid rehashing material that already exists on the web. If you are writing about a heavily-written topic, try and add your own personality and flair to your writing. Include statistics or fun facts, in order to add an entertainment value to your reader. If pictures and video can help enliven the user experience, you can add those, too.

Above all, avoid writing short (550 words or less would be considered short) articles that provide little value. To start attracting more backlinks to your site, you need to create “linkable” content, ie: content which people want to link to.

4. Avoid Black Hat/Grey Hat Practices

Some SEO companies or websites may encourage “Grey hat” practices. This might include creating doorway pages, keyword stuffing (adding hundreds of keywords to each page), cloaking (hiding keyword stuffing by making the text the same colour as the actual webpage) and buying links. These practices are finally outdated and they can get your website penalized heavily. If you avoid these practices, the Penguin and Panda algorithms will ensure that you’ll stay in the search results.

Conclusion

Having a high quality website establishes trust with Google. Once you’ve set a solid foundation, your website will continue to grow and prosper. Once you make a habit of creating high quality blog posts, focusing on giving your user a great user experience, your website will be on the path to total trust with Google and continuous prosperity.

Content Marketing Ideas You Should Try Out

Four Content Marketing Ideas You Should Try Out

Content marketing is one of the most profitable ways to showcase your business to the web. By creating high-quality content, your website will gain more backlinks from other websites, thus boosting your rankings in Google search results. With pieces of content, you can build a bigger audience to your website through social media, also. The more traffic you can pull into your website, the more people will avail of your products or services.

contentmarketing

For a website only starting out in content marketing, it can be a daunting challenge to start producing content worthy of backlinks. In this article, we’ll check out four ideas for content marketing. If you like a certain type of article, you can start experimenting with that on your blog to see if it pulls in any traffic.

In this article, we’ll take a look at types of content which is popular on the web today.

1. List Based Article

One of the most popular news websites is Buzzfeed, which creates list based articles. Recent studies into online marketing have shown that customers tend to click on titles with a number at the beginning. Perhaps, having a number in the title consolidates the amount of information. It also gives a quick overview on the number of items the reader can scan through.

Examples of these titles include:

  • 6 Reasons Your Swimming Pool Has Algae
  • 5 Exciting Themes for Your Next Party/Occasion
  • 7 Durable Apple iPhone Cases We Adore
  • 4 Ways To Clear Viruses From Your PC

As you can see, these titles help make it easy for the reader to click on and this can boost your click-through rates on Google search results.

Coming up with list based articles is easy, if you know a lot about your website’s niche. Just because your niche is in motoring or mechanics or window cleaning, it doesn’t mean you can’t create content on it. Broaden your scope and focus on the practicalities of your niche and key information consumers would like to know.

2. Infographic

Infographics are the latest trend and they can help you attract more traffic and backlinks to your website. An infographic does what it states in the title. It is a graphic which contains information. In a typical infographic, you can display statistics, facts, figures and images within the graphic.

Infographics have seen recent popularity in the last few years, especially with the rise of Pinterest and photo sharing sites.

You don’t need to be a graphic designer to create an infographic. In fact, you can create one through websites such as www.venngage.com, www.canva.com, or www.piktochart.com. All these tools are free and offer templates. All you have to do is insert your facts and statistics into the template, and you will have a ready-made infographic!

Once you’ve created your infographic, you can ask other websites in your niche to display it or link to the infographic on their website. That way, you are gaining backlinks to your website.

If you still want to create a textual article out of the article, just post the text of the infographic to your blog, and you will have a text article, also. If your infographic’s title is catchy and promises useful information, your infographic could garner hundreds of shares on social media, and many backlinks. Some infographics have even gone viral, resulting in millions of viewers. While that is very rare, it is quite possible that your infographic could attract new customers from both Google search results and from social media.

3. A How-To Article

This type of web article focuses on showing the viewer how to do something, whether it’s about baking cookies, or cleaning dust from their car’s interior. The scope can be very broad or it can be very narrow, depending on your niche.

Before you create titles for your articles, put a list of keywords through the Google Keyword Planner. There are many guides online which show you how to do this, but I most recommend Backlinko’s Guide to finding profitable keywords with this tool.

When you have found keywords with the planner that get more than 2000 searches per month, you can turn these keywords into titles. Some examples could include:

  • How To Bake Cookies In 10 Minutes: A Quicker Method
  • How To Clear Your PC of Adware In Thirty Minutes
  • How To Track Your Ancestry Using Online Research

When you are writing the article, you can keep the steps brief and concise. This is one of the advantages of the “how-to” article; there is no need to write long, winding passages. As long as you clearly state the steps in a concise way and the steps will help the reader, you have created a valuable asset for the online world.

Your article will start ranking alongside other guides, but if there is little competition, it might start ranking immediately.

Conclusion

Those who use content marketing as part of their business strategy will start seeing results in a few months. The effects of writing content may take a while to see, but once traffic starts to increase, you can expect that traffic to keep streaming in throughout the months.

Penguin Now Part of Google Searches Core Algorithm

Penguin Now Part of Google Searches Core Algorithm
Google’s algorithms rely on more than 200 unique signals or “clues” that make it possible to surface what you might be looking for. These signals include things like the specific words that appear on websites, the freshness of content, your region and PageRank. One specific signal of the algorithms is called Penguin, which was first launched in 2012 and today has an update.

googlepenguin

After a period of development and testing, Google are now rolling out an update to the Penguin algorithm in all languages. Here are the key changes, which were also among webmasters’ top requests to Google:

Penguin Now Real Time
Historically, the list of sites affected by Penguin was periodically refreshed at the same time. Once a webmaster considerably improved their site and its presence on the internet, many of Google’s algorithms would take that into consideration very fast, but others, like Penguin, needed to be refreshed. With this change, Penguin’s data is refreshed in real time, so changes will be visible much faster, typically taking effect shortly after we recrawl and reindex a page. It also means we’re not going to comment on future refreshes.

Penguin is Now More Granular
Penguin now devalues spam by adjusting ranking based on spam signals, rather than affecting ranking of the whole site.

The web has significantly changed over the years, but now Google states that webmasters should be free to focus on creating amazing, compelling websites.

It’s also important to remember that updates like Penguin are just one of more than 200 signals Google uses to determine rank.

Long Tail Keywords Important to the SEO Campaign

Long Tail Keywords Important to the SEO Campaign

Long tail keywords are more specific types of keywords, because they include more information than a normal keyword. For example, a broad keyword might be “tree surgeon”, but a long tail keyword would be “tree surgeon Tonbridge, Kent.” This keyword is much more specific than the broad keyword.

longtailkeywords

Focus in on Long Tail Keywords
In this article, we’ll take a look at why you should focus on long tail keywords. The reasons may surprise you.

1. Interested Customers

Long tail keywords might include specific queries or locations, thus showing that the customer has a more specialized interest in the niche. Let’s go back to our tree surgery example from above. The broad keyword “tree surgery” is very vague and searchers who are searching that might only want a definition or they might want to learn about tree surgery in general. Since it’s so broad, that keyword doesn’t show much interest in the customer wanting to avail of tree surgery services.

In comparison, let’s look at “tree surgeon Tonbridge, Kent.” This keyword pinpoints with precision accuracy the customer’s intent. From looking at this keyword, we know that the customer wants to hire a tree surgeon in Tonbridge, preferably. While this keyword may get very few searches per month, those searches are precise and accurate, and are much more profitable than broad keywords. If you have a business ranking for those keywords, that person will be more likely to buy your services.

2. Competition

Long tail keywords might get less searches each month, because they are so specific, but these are the keywords which are easier to rank for. It is virtually impossible for a small business to start ranking for very broad keywords such as “tree surgery” or “confectionery” or “candles”, because these keywords are already dominated by big name websites such as Wikipedia, Amazon, and eBay. These websites have bulletproof SEO embedded within their online marketing, and so, it is impossible to get past them for such a broad keyword.

However, if you narrow down your keyword by turning it into a long tail keyword, such as “candle shop Kent” or “confectionery for birthday parties Kent”, the competition will decrease hugely.

This is because less websites have the exact long tail keyword “confectionery for birthday parties” embedded within their text. They might serve confectionery across the globe, but don’t specialize for birthday party catering or for Kent. That’s where your business comes in.

How Do I Rank For Long Tail Keywords?

You don’t need to write blog posts for certain long tail keywords specifically, but you can use the Google Keyword Planner to find keywords which might be profitable for your business. Don’t let the amount of searches daze you, if they only get fifty searches a month. If you think about it, that’s fifty interested people each month looking for your business’s products or services. Even if you retain a few of them after the first purchase, that’s enough to really increase earnings.

You might be naturally ranking for certain long tail keywords without even knowing. If your website contains a lot of textual content such as paragraphs describing your services, location, and products, the Googlebot will automatically strat ranking you for certain keywords. You can build up your blog post numbers to start creating more textual content for the Googlebot to scan.

However, if you find that you’d like to rank for a certain long tail keyword, you can write a blog post specifically with that phrase embedded in the title and in the text.

In Conclusion

Many businesses ignore long tail keywords, because they think that these keywords won’t attract much searchers. However, the entire opposite will happen. By ranking for specific keywords, your website will attract highly interested customers who are much more likely to purchase your products or services.

SEO for Business: Move your Company Rankings Higher

SEO for Business: Move your Company Rankings Higher
In today’s business world, it’s an accepted fact that all businesses need an online presence in order to succeed. For most businesses, a company website is the absolute minimum. With the advent of social networking, early adopters of the company website and paid online advertising have since expanded their online presence to include social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. While these means of promoting a business are all relevant and useful in their own way, a great many businesses are still missing out on a paid opportunity that promises a high return on investment in the long run, and that is Search Engine Optimisation or SEO.

googleimage

Simply put, SEO is a means of having your business ranked higher in search engine results based on certain keywords and key phrases. For example, if a home care agency in Newcastle wants to draw more traffic to its website and thus attract more clients, the agency director could contract with a SEO firm to develop high-quality content related to its business. This content might relate to the challenges faced by carers of elderly relatives as well as the home care needs of someone with a particular medical condition, and related keywords in the title and body of one or a series of articles would then serve to move the agency’s rankings higher in search results based on those keywords. The content need not be overly promotional; in fact, less overt promotional tactics are often more successful, since Google strives to maintain rankings according to the quality of the content.

SEO accomplishes many of the same results as a pay-per-click or other online advertising campaign for a generally lower cost, and the results are much longer-lasting. Another advantage of SEO for business is the trust factor: since many people skip the adverts at the top of a search engine results screen and go straight to the ranked results, high-quality SEO content leads to a higher ranking in search results and amounts to a nod of approval from the search engine which no amount of traditional advertising can buy.

Any business which has not already explored the option of SEO has overlooked an important marketing resource. If you are ready to increase your company’s online visibility while building credibility through informative content related to your business, then the time has come for your company to invest in SEO.

Google’s ‘Possum’ Algorithm Update

Google’s ‘Possum’ Algorithm Update
Wondering what “Possum” is – it’s the name the local search community gave the massive Local algorithm update that happened September 1, 2016.

So what’s up with update?  It seems that the evidence indicates that it is only impacting ranking in the 2-pack and Local Finder (the local results or Google Maps results, in other words).  There’s talk of another update that happened right after, which impacted organic results. Could it be that the big purpose behind the update is to diversify the local results and prevent spam from ranking well?  It could be that.

There were dozens of ranking reports that were analyzed by Joy Hawkins, is a Local SEO expert who is a part of Google’s Top Contributor program & MapMaker Regional Leads program. She regularly contributes to many online communities in the Local SEO world and the Google My Business forum. She is also a contributor to the Moz Local Search Ranking Factors survey.

She feels that this is the largest update that’s been seen in Local since Pigeon in 2014.  It seems that Google’s filter that applies to the local results was one of the main things that had been updated. Joy wrote a post about this new ‘Possum’ update, and everything you need to know about it, and you should check it out at the following link: Search Engine Land: Everything you need to know about Google’s ‘Possum’ algorithm update.
